Problerms with acceratating

Post by jacksun1987 »

Serviced my car today. Before it was ok, The airfilter had oil on it. Andthere was sum oil in the pipe. Chage all the filter put new oil in. Started the car up. The accerater cable was stiking. The engine felt like it was going to stall. Then reving high, We adjested the cable a bit to get the revs down. But my revcounter not working. Did it on sound. Drove home, Then the car at low revs started lerching foward. Then somtimes seemed like it was really low revs. So when i changed gear it felt lumpy joty.
Could there be a problerm with the turbo. Mabye it was clugged up with oil. And now theres air getting round the engine. Could resualt in the old oil whats in the pipe. Going towards the filter. Moving more.
Or its the cable.
It took 5 times to start the car up. If it was the cable that was on. It would just rev up.
At the moment it sounds the right revs. But then it sounds like its going to die for a second. Then it picks back up agine.
I was driving at 60 i didnt move my foot. Then it went up to 70. Seems to do it more when im at low revs.
I put my foot flat to the floor in second it was lumpy then as well.
Before it was ok then after 2000 revs the turbo kicks in really hard The black tzd wasnt as punchy

HOPE IT MAKES SINCE THANKS

I take it you've changed the fuel filter.

Did you fit the new rubber seal supplied with the filter?

If so, did you smear the seals with a little grease?

Check to make sure the seals are seating correctly, it sounds like you are drawing air into the fuel system somewhere.

I hope it iss somthing stupid and simple. Its all right for ost ppl on here. They can afford to have 2 cars. Its still pricy now insuring the car. I spoke to a lad called toby. At the ccc meeting. Hes on this admerul multi car. He has a activia and a 45 coupe v6. Hes 23 im 24 im paying 600 to 700. Think he said it was 1500 for both. I think he also said he had to claime. Ive not claimes yet all being well. Got 2 years no caimes.
I need my car for work i do 40 miles a day in it.

Paul - if you simply changed filters & fluids then the most likely thing is you're not done it right or disturbed something without knowing. As ken suggests, air leaking into the fuel supply is a likely suspect causing uneven running.

You should not have to be fiddling with cable adjustment to let the thing start & idle. What makes you think the cable is sticking?

I suggest you start eliminating potential causes.

Recheck the fuel filter seal - and check all is tightened up okay.

Check you've not left anything in the air box or air pipes into the engine - like rags. The engine can run without the air filter if you are simply testing how it runs.

You can also disconnect the accelerator cable and the engine should idle on the idle position screw/adjuster/"whatever it is on the roto pump". You should then be able to rev the engine by moving by hand whatever the cable was connected to.

You can borrow my spare car - oh no, I don't have one.

Like Steve says above - think about it logically and don't start fiddling with stuff that doesn't need fiddling with!

Try bleeding the fuel from the fuel filter and see if any air comes out.

Would you really lend Paul your spare car if you had one :?:

You must like fixing cars

If I have a spare it's usually waiting for the scrappy to call. I decided a while back that it was cheaper for me to pay an expert to fix my cars than for me to randomly pull bits off and put them back again in the hope that it counts as maintenance.

I think patience is a very important quality in a mechanic. ;)
