Towing Weight

Post by mds141 »

Been having house decorated and i can't locate my handbook. What is the max towing weight for a braked trl for the BX 16 valve. Looking at a caravan on ebay but unsure of weights. Thanks Mark.

It's around 1000KG I think... we towed a 950KG caravan in our TD and it was fine apart from getting one wheel caught in a ditch!

I'm sure the weights are in the haynes...

1100 kg here in Finland (495 if no brakes), but it may vary from country to country. (Usually it's lower here than in most other places, though. ;) )

Just bear in mind that those are DESIGN MAXIMUM.

In the UK the trailer can't exceed the kerbweight of the car and most BX's weigh less than that.

Fortunately the kerbweights are shown above too! (Excluding ALL diesels as they're not covered by that book but they're pretty close).

So, MAX tow weight for the 16V is 1070kg in the UK. Like i said further up, same as the kerbweight.

As i understand it any trl over 750kg requires the driver to sit a seperate test if they gained their licence prior to 1997. This test is identical to the one i sat for my class 1 hgv. However given the number of people i see using the 3rd lane on a motorway whilst pulling a trl and the number of caravans i see facing the wrong way/upside down on this nations finest carriageways, i do wonder if any of these people have sat this test or indeed any form of driving test at all. Rant over. :x

That'll be AFTER 1997... but it's not quite as simple as that...
