Hi Mike

Is the clutch buggered, I've never had to fit one yet, always found it to be a badly adusted cable instead.

Just though I would mention it before you go to all that trouble!.

Yes it is correctly adjusted and nice light action it just has no grip I suspect its down to the rivets if any driven plate at all. Its not a hard job it's just nice to follow instructions from someone who has done it make sure you don't miss a pipe to move or a bolt or dismantle half the car when there there is no need

it was originally owned by such a person but alas I have photos of it doing a track day with a much younger guy at the wheel I think that was the bit that killed it also warped the rocker cover by about 1/4" and blew an exhaust gasket must have given it some welly as they say. No respect some people

Its here...

http://www.bxclub.co.uk/diy/tdclutch/

I changed the clutch on my TD 2 weeks ago for the 2nd time and have changed a few BX clutches. I class it as a 2 day job working a sensible number of hours (its a 'bit' easier on a GTi 8v than a TD or 16v)

Are you doing it on a 4x4?? If so, its a rather different job and worth doing some research before hand. I've only ever known it done on a 4x4 by removing the engine and gearbox plus transfer box complete.

Did you sort the clutch in the end? It's been a long time since I did any work on a 4x4, but I think the crucial factor will be whether you can get the transfer box out with the engine in situ. If you can, it'll be as simple as a standard clutch change, if not it'll be engine and box out time. It would be interesting to hear whether the above method is practical?

BX 4X4 clutch replacement

Post by djm666 »

on the 4x4it is just as easy i have found to pull the engine and gearbox and transfer box out and work on it on the floor with no bx round it.
i had to modify my engine crane to tilt the engine at a hell of an angle but i found it was a piece of piss this way.
then you can pull the cover off the back of the gearbox and check the splinesfrom gearbox to transfer box, which sometimes is the problem and not the clutch, especially if it has a hard life in the past.
also there is a special oil in the transfer box, i ordered 20litres of it from citroen, as you are ment to change it very regularly to maintain good transfer box health.
so the big question is how did you get on?
