front suspension parts nut sizes..

Post by themildbunch »

I'm going to redo one dodgy droplink and tackle my very worn wishbone bushes next week and I need to get the correct replacement nuts..

Can anyone confirm or correct these sizes for the following:

droplinks top and bottom - M10 fine pitch nyloc
ball joint - M12 fine pitch nyloc
wishbone rear nut - M16 fine pitch nyloc
wishbone front nut - M16 fine pitch normal

Strengthwise should these be 8.8 or 10.8?
Out local fasteners supplier quotes DIN 982 on their nyloc nuts is this enough here?

Thanks

Drop links and balls joints should come with new nuts if you don\'t skimp and get OE.

I wouldn\'t bother getting new wish bone pivot nut either unless you make an absolute hash of removing them (not blaming you but the dreaded rust). Get a decent 24mm combination spanner and you\'ll be laughing, be very surprised if you strip those bastards!

I've never managed to break a wishbone pivot nut, even though the ones I usually tackle with are in quite bad condition to begin with:

If you have a look at Riku's link all will become clear...apart from what that photo actually is!

The old dishwasher was waiting to be recycled as scrap metal, and while it was there, I thought to give it a chance to do the last service by washing my tools after the wishbone exercise. Filled it with diesel fuel, disconnected the heater element, and let it run. !!!---)))

Worked nicely for a couple of months, but at the end, didn't save it from recycling, since my Wife disliked its decorational characteristics.

thanks for that - i did skimp the first time and my AEP droplinks had no nuts and one of the threads stripped before I even got to the right torque... Not sure of the main stealer prices but FAI suspensions parts come with nuts so they must be better!?

Yeah, the wishbone nuts are big - but I like the look of shiny new parts and I thought that nyloks should only be used once?
I've got a big US Craftsman 24mm spanner so should be ok, guess I'll need some extra pipe and / or jack too..

Check out that thread:

In my experience, too, they are good for 3-4 reuses, but probably no more.
