Where can I get a spare key cut?

Post by Willy »

I've just bought Bob's old Athena, and it only has one key (which is in good shape and works perfectly in both door and ignition). I've never before misplaced a key, be it car or house, but I'm always terrified of this scenario and previous motors have always had spares.

Could I pop down to my local dealer so see if they have a big lock-database and have them cut me one, or would it be better to just buy a blank from the interweb and get my local keycutter to make me a copy?

Cheers.

Hi Willy

Yes your local cobblers should be able to oblige as that design of key was shared with a few other Citroen/Peugeot cars of the era.

Ive had a couple done.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

A dealer will charge a surprising amount! Far cheaper to just nip down the cobblers. Find an older one and they might even have correct (or close enough) blanks on the shelf.

I've had a couple cut at cobblers, that's the beauty of an unchipped key. Passats never again! :D

Thanks, glad these aren't stupid old 90s GMs with their chipped "passkeys".

Assuming my local might not have the correct blanks in stock... could anybody please tell me which of these are the correct fit? The SX8, 9 and 10 all look about right... :?

SX9AP for the later locks & SX8 for earlier, although you'd be hard pressed to find a cobbler that doesn't have them in stock.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Timpsons shoes if you have one nearby. £5 per key which is guaranteed to work, if cut from one of their blanks. :)
