Cooling System

Post by kiwi »

Just hope I can describe this well in writing.

BX19TZS

Got some strange things happening to the radiator water level.

Couple days ago when I got to work there was some steam and the radiator was overflowing a small amount, given that there was a bit of a climb involved put it down to some loading on the engine from the slight climb. When the car was cool checked the water level nothing untoward with it visible in the normal place in the filler neck.

Yesterday took ift for a trip to town no problems then had to do a quick dash trip to town last night still no leakage problem.

This morning cold engine on opening the filler cap a small amount water poored out and coolant to the top of the filler neck.

In other words the coolant had expanded but this was cold.

So my question would be would that indicate a problem with the thermostat or some other blockage airlock etc?

No and No water in Oil either.

My thoughts are the thermostat not the HG.

Try removing the thermostat and see if this helps if you havnt a spare one.
I had this happen to a BX years ago. The rad was under pressure even when cold. Bubbles visble in the top of the rad with the cap off with the engine running confirmed the HG had blown.
