Is this a rear cylinder for a Bx saloon?

Post by Mike P »

I've been going through my NOS spares to identify what else I need to acquire for the upcoming work on my 16V.

The part number on the box is ok, but is this the correct rear cylinder for a saloon :?:

by part number yes. Alhtough it's impossible to say if thats a hatch or estate cylinder from the picture. But given that the part number is right, I'd say it stands a very fair chance of being correct!

Can I suggest, if it's been stored for some time, before using it, push the piston forward and check the cylinder walls for any tiny build ups of corrosion.

I once had a BX estate that had had a new cylinder fitted but found it leaked loads of fluid through the return pipes. When I checked it I found a tiny spot of something like rust on the cylinder wall and of course with use had damaged the high pressure seal on the piston.

it isnt quite clear to me if this is estate or saloon,

although it seems the estate has a 37mm piston,

also on service citroen they only list a left cylinder,

i know the only diference will be the oriantasion of the boot/gaitor,

here is part No.'s from service citroen

95 563 031
SUSPENSION CYL
LEFT

95 599 871

LEFT
DIAM 37
- ESTATE

If the piston is a different size between the estate & hatch, as long as the cylinder dimensions are the same, just swap over the pistons etc... into the new housing :D
