LHM capacity

Haynes doesn't offer this info - but once I've changed the front spheres, accumulator and emptied the reservoir for cleaning, how much new LHM will I need to fill it back up?

AFAIK its about 3.5 litres, if you overfill dont worry to much as all it will do is make a mess of your drive but do no damage.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

when at the corect capacity with the car fully up on its highest susp setting, the yellow disc in the level indicator should be beteen the two red bands,


you system will not be fully empty after replaceing the spheres and drainning the tank,

There are 2 methods for removing lhm, the easy not so good & the harder but better way, which one are you following?

I'd prefer to follow the better way, please do tell :) I'll be taking the tank off and empyting that to then clean the filters, but I presume your method also includes getting rid of all the fluid still in the system (would prefer to do that if possible).

mostly the fluid which gets left in the system is in the brake circuit which is four dead ends, all you do there is bleed all 4 corners till clean citro blood comes out,

Thanks Malcolm, will do that.

My local GSF just tried to flog me a 1 litre bottle of Total LHM plus and 2 litres of a different brand, but as I'm a fussy sod I'll wait until they get a new stock of Total in tomorrow.

I've got the spheres, a removal tool I bought from ebay, and plenty of dust sheets and rags so will crack on with the job later in the week. I'm trying to have the car ready in time for a drive up to the NEC Classic Show :)

Be very careful with the caliper bleed nipples, you don't want to shear them off :shock:

Do be very careful when cleaning out the LHM tank, the inner rim edge is razor sharp!!!

As per above, i use some sandpaper to sand it smooth to avoid it cutting you to ribbons.

I would be a little bit concerned about where the sand paper residue is going to end up and where it is going o start wearing next? :cry:

i think you would do the sandpaper shuffle with a removed and empty tank, then wash/rinse it out with petrol,
