Engine mounts...

Post by Matt H »

Just spoken to a friend who works in the Citroen parts department, and he tells me Citroen no longer supply BX 16v engine mounts... Any idea where I can get them from? Mine are pretty shagged, and would be nice to change them.

Haven't tried the local factors yet... But wanted to go with oe quality if possible.

Also... The reason this is in the technical section. Is the bottom mount easy to do? I thought I might as well change all of them at the same time. Never changed engine mounts before...

if thats actually the case then they aint available for any BX, since all the actual metalastic mounts are the same for all XU BX's..

Bottom mount isn't a mount but a torque link. Yes it's easy enough to do with the entire mounting removed from a car and a suitable vice. Press out, press in. In situ on the car it's a ball ache.
The little bush in the torque link is method as above, but when complete torque links were available they were only a couple of quid more than the plain bush! So I always changed the whole thing..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

GSF have the top mount in stock... My mate can get the bottom one. I think the problem is that Citroen don't want anything to do with stuff older than a C4

I'll just do the top one for the time being, and have a crack at the torque link when I can do without the car for a couple of days... Would this one be right? Surely any XU engined BX has the same mounts?

I think you want a pair of these for the white one, as one of them seemed to have crumbled.

Not sure whether the C15 ones are in fact the same, but they look similar.

Yes... Already sorted that one!

Would just the top mount cause a lot of excess movement though? I mean, it would make my life easier  I'll just change it and see what difference it makes.

Where did you get yours? I need to change mine on the red BX, but a quick look on eBay just shows ones with a pin (like the link) to prevent them turning, rather than a lip. I've not asked any factors around here yet though. I wondered whether the aftermarket ones were manufactured with a pin so they were compatible with more applications?

If there is still a lot of movement it's likely to be the lower torque link bush(es). I don't have anything to drive the larger one out with, but have a friendly garage who will press them out for a couple of drinks if I bring the housing to them. Bear in mind that you also have to remove the driveshaft too, if you don't do it in situ.

And make sure the 'connected' parts of the bush are in line with the force from the engine trying to twist, otherwise the engine will still rock around even with a new bush. Apparently

certainly seems to cross over through service citroen even the DW8,

and yes the one in the ebay link is the large bottom stabaliser bush,

which GSF used to sell for around £6 squid,

and usualy its the bottom one soaked in oil that cause's exsecive engine movement,

because these engines hang on there mounting rather than sit on them,

Got the top mount and buffers today... Before I attempt this in the dark (with good lighting) tonight, anything I need to know?

General tips that might not be obvious until you've done it once or twice...

Those little pyramid shaped ones were well gone on my valver when I bought it some years ago...

Look easy to replace until you try to get a spanner on them IIRC... Check out the little helpful Citroen afterthought in the wheel arch to help you do it!

Took me a while to notice it...

Top mount all done 8)

Took a couple of hours in total, most of that trying to get the rear 'buffer' mount back on again :?

Will post a picture of it when I get chance, but it was in quite a state, and the car feels better than ever!
