Unanswered questions... I wonder how much the auto industry lobby affected this to get us to scrap more old cars, or make us spend more repairing them? Will the price of an MOT remain the same within inflation? And are we any nearer to two-yearly MOTs? Hmm.

I agree with Willy.

How many accidents are caused by faulty vehicles anyway?
This is a jobs worth's paradise, and won't have any effect on accidents or pollution.

I expect the burocrats who think that lot is necessary have never even lifted the bonnet of a car, and believe everything they are told because they are ' not technical'

Why the f**k do you need a catalyser if the vehicle meets emissions without one?

Anyhow, how can the tester tell its not just an empty can?

In some American states (Colorado for one) they don't have an MOT at all.

Willy's right, this is just an attempt to create jobs for the service industry, and force us to buy newer cars which are almost impossible to fix.

My engine light goes on and off at random,
but there is no noticeable problem with the engine.

I have been unable to fix this in the last 6 years.

What is the best way to fake it for the MOT man?

Perhaps I should MOT it early to get another year.

A catalytic converter missing WILL be a reason for failure, regardless of whether or not the emissions limits are met.
This doesn't mean does it that every pre-1992 car will now have to have a catalytic converter even if it wasn't designed for one?

A cat can't be 'missing' if there was never one there in the first place... I guess!

Wow that was a work of art until he ruined it with the mods he's done (apart from the door lock that is)
