engine cleaning

Post by tim »

The White One has had a small oil leak for years, previous mechanics ignored fixing it. Turns out it's simply that the breather pipe was't secured properly, which I noticed today when the airbox etc, was off during the exhaust saga. The front of the motor is thick with black, oily crud - so how do I remove this? Yes, I know about Gunk and a hose, only too well, but there's layers of the stuff. How do garages do it - steam cleaning or something? I want to get this motor cleaned properly! Gunk/hose is OK for some applications but it will need far too much, ditto water, and several applications as well. I wouldn't want to remove either injectors or glowplugs until this lot was removed.

Get the engine warm, then apply your gunk, leave it to soak a while and try rinsing off with hot water and then a pressure washer if you have one.
They think it's all over, it is now!

As it's a diesel a pressure washer will do the job a treat without gunk which is all garages use, if it was a petrol stay well away with a pressure washer and use the gunk.
