Not sure to be honest, but why would it need to be? 40 ton truck suspension cope ok with these pipe pressures? :?

It would appear so!

From http://www.citroenet.org.uk/miscellaneo ... ics-1.html

''The top is filled with nitrogen at high pressure, up to 75 bar while the bottom connects to the car's hydraulic fluid circuit. The high pressure pump powered by the engine pressurizes the circuit and the accumulator sphere. This part of the circuit is at between 150 and 180 bars. It powers the front brakes first, prioritised via a security valve, and depending on type of vehicle, can power the steering, clutch, gearchange, etc.''

Indeed in Haynes I think it says somewhere that parts of the system are beyween 2000 and 3000 psi.

Does this rule out the Nylon stuff for the supply piping (but OK for return piping) ?

It would be fab if something else was suitable, as the main issue that I have found is the unions. I replaced the main feed to rear brakes, from front to the T-piece at the back. That T-piece was a heck of a bugger, the hex heads just corrode so badly that if you want to replace only one pipe, you are in serious danger of having to replace whole sections of piping simply because other unions cannot be undone, there is barely room for an opended spanner on those T-pieces. I forget how I sorted it, but it was tocuh and go, I nearly had to replace all the brake piping at the back, just to replace the main pipe which had a small rust hole on a bend..

Hence the proposed methonds in this thread .... but then you need all the flaring tools, whereas most of us (well me at least) only have spanners to undo unions to replace (hopefully) one pipe.

Because the pipe unions are basically the same on the 2CV and the H van as well, I invested a while ago in a proper vice-mounted flaring tool. Haven't regretted it and the unions provided by Pleiades are more robust and have a bigger spanner flat than originals so are easier to use.

Probably been posted before, but is there a link to a flare tool. and/or has anyone got a picture of one, plus the unions etc

EDIT: deja vu ... thought I'd seen it somewhere recently
http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... ight=flare

EDIT2: seems to be a recurrent theme (more search on "flare")
http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... ight=flare

EDIT3: hence some permanent pics would be nice, and maybe something about it in the FAQ section e.g. "soultions for repairing supply piping" and "solutions for repairing return piping"

I took this pic from one on ebay B.I.N.priced at £185 !!!

different one on auction starting here £90 from Poland

Mine's the same as the first one above - although I don't think I paid quite that much for it! Serious bit of kit though.
But there is (or at least was) a much simpler and cheaper version available that was fiddlier and more time-consuming to use - which isn't important if you're only using it occasionally. You can even use it to make a union to cut and splice a pipe still fitted to the car. Again Pleiades used to do them but not sure if they still do.

A similar flaring tool (as the /\ ), can be seen/viewed on YOU-TUBE
If you want one of these its a staggering/eye watering £335 (With postage) on E-BAY

The price what most folks want to spend on a 1.7 TZD with 12 months mot and full service history !

wow, if that one in youtube was B.I.N. on ebay for £50 I'd buy one, makes replacement of pressure supply piping nothing to worry about.

what about the other B.I.N. (the pic I downloaded) at £185, what's the difference between it and the one at £330 ??

The Pleiades vice-mounted tool that I have is an adaptation of a Sykes-Pickavant flaring tool like this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sykes-Pickava ... 483a292e79

I only know that because I acquired an S-P one recently as well! I reckon anyone with a lathe and a pillar drill and a bit of skill could make up the necessary adaptor if they had the S-P tool as a starting point.
