Unless I'm much mistaken it applies to petrol models with injection and ECUs?

The OBD socket is adjacent to the front o/s sphere. The ECU is located beneath the driving seat. Diagnostics can also be ascertained by observing the "blink code" on the "k" light when there is a fault condition.

However there is no point looking for any of this on the diesel donkeys.

OBD was legislated in US markets in the late 80's. It was not mandated in europe until 2000 I think. So I suspect that if a manufacturer sold in the US and europe, like VW Golf, then the european versions got OBD too in the late 80's or early 90's. Another reason would be if a manufacturer used one of the big suppliers for their engine controls, like Bosch, then the OBD capability would be there available to use on the european vehicle - like the 1.9 petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection.

Mine's a 1990 build, but although I've never looked for one I can see no reason why a 1987 valver wouldn't have one....it's the same ECU as mine. GTi's didn't get it until they got proper injection and ditched that mechanical K-Jet stuff......I think.

I had a couple of AX GT's with it (carb powered....no ECU so very limited functions I would think) but no, you won't find OBD on a mechanically driven diesel ;)

EU in 2001. Many cars had switched to OBD II compliant ports by then, but not all software was universal until March 2001....I think.

well the early XANTS had a 30 pin citroen dedicated diagnostic socket,

so it seems very strange why a BX would have had an OBD or even EOBD socket,

i know some BX's had diagnostic sockets but i have not seen an OBD,
