At my wits' end with this bloody ZX - intake boost results

Well my Synergie only ever gets 45mpg, on the same engine. Mind you Parkers says it should do 36 so... should I start fiddling with the fuel pump to see if it can get better?

It doesn't have much noticeable boost, but I have always put that down to the fact that there's miles of pipework from intercooler to turbo and then back to inlet manifold...

Phil I agree largely with you, but I'm persevering for the moment, for a few reasons. I like things to work properly, and I get a lot of satisfaction from making them work properly, so this is a bit of recreational tinkering. And I know the XUD engine relatively well. We don't do that many miles in it, so it's not a crippling cost. And I'm generally averse to throwing things away. Plus SWMBO likes it, which is v. imp.

Although I'm sure she'd like a Volvo estate even more, but I'm reluctant to open that particular possibility.

We'll see how it does. I'll get this sorted, then the rear wheels will collapse or something.

Fair enough! There will be a time when a ZX on the road is as rare a sight as the BX is today. So hats off to you for your perseverance. :)

Plus the cost to change (insurance adjustment, advertising the old car, peace of mind service on the new one) can be significant. And a replacement may not be problem free - who gets rid of a car when it's running perfectly and there are no big bills on the horizon?

Usually me :? :oops: I buy them get them running perfectly , solve all the problems to the highest standard that i'm happy with and only I will know about and then once finished get bored and sell it on for someone else to reap the bennefits of my handy work without them even knowing then buy my next project. It's been a major fault of mine for many years I will not sell a car with any known faults :roll: I'm obsessed with tinkering and getting thinks working properly. Hopefully the increasing enjoyment i'm getting out of running my BX's has now solved this illness :!:

I'm similar to that - I believe that what goes around, comes around. Cars we sell usually go to family & friends anyway, but even if not I wouldn't like something to fail shortly after it's been sold.

Now down to 29mpg :shock: :(

Really haven't a clue what might be wrong with it. I shall have a good look over for leaks this weekend, but other than a fuel leak while running, I can't think of anything else to fettle.

:(

It's gone from 43mpg to 29mpg in my ownership.

Get shot & get another one, they are cheap anyway's. Or find a garage that knows their zx's inside & out & perhaps they can diagnose the issue(s)? A pain in the arse.

Actually, have you had the injectors checked?

Bolxxcks as they say. If no fuel is leaking, then its chewing diesel at a high rate. Does it smoke a lot, that would suggest overfueling?

Blimey, you are still at it, I would be tempted to get hold of a Bosch pump, pipes and injectors and swap the lot over.

Hi Stewart

I don't think it's the pump now. I've adjusted it backwards and there's no smoke so it should be fine. I think the handbrake is binding on - the rear wheels didn't spin very easily when I jacked it up this morning. I took it down to Medway Citroen but they didn't have a spare ramp. I'll have a fiddle with it tomorrow morning.

Pissed off now.

Simple fix if its just binding brakes, did you ever see how hot the wheels would get after a drive? Thats usually a giveaway that something is binding. Perhaps keep the faith a little longer :?:

There was a binding front brake earlier which I sorted. I think this is the handbrake on the rear.
