Injector pump overhaul

Post by KevR »

Anyone know roughly how much it will cost to get a pump stripped, cleaned and overhauled? And any recommendations as to where to send it? Got a bit of a leak round the spindle that needs sorting out and thought I'd take the opportunity to get it checked over.

I got a pump 're-sealed' a couple of years at a place in Basildon. I think they charged about £80. The pump subsequently leaked in two different locations but they were happy to fix it ...once I returned it to them. I think you can get the seal kit off ebay for about 30 and the job would take less than a couple of hours so someone who had done it before. Have you tried calling around for prices? There are some exotic prices about when electronics are involved but these pumps should not be in that category. Steve

Seal kit for £12 inc postage!

Thanks for that. I've remembered that there's a full-on diesel specialist in Loughborough (which is where I usually stay when I'm back in UK), so I'll ask them for a quote. Might have a look for seal kits though – I've got a spare pump I could play with.

I bought a seal kit from Diesel Bob for under £40, but I confess to only replacing the leaking seals and any other easy to change ones (perhaps what your place did Steve? :? )

For the price of a kit, if you have a spare pump then having a go yourself makes sense - if you have the time!

Been in contact with an ebay seller who seems to know his stuff and he says it's probably the throttle bush:

At fifteen quid I've bought it. He also does full seal kits for the same price.

I remember now having this problem with a Xantia once and changing the bushing cured it.

I can recommend Rochester City Diesel in Medway. Peter Cross, 01634 813305. Proper old-fashioned, time-served engineer in a spotless workshop. He's happy to talk it through on the phone, too, usually.
