rear end knock

Post by garfield »

Help im going demented my bx saloon has a knock on the o/s/r going over bumpy ground ive been to my tame mot tester and we checked everything all we could find was a tiny bit of play in the rear arm and a rumbly bearing. I replaced the rear arm and bearing today and the knock is exactly the same (and i broke a brake pipe just to put icing on the cake) THe only thing i can find loose is a bit of play in the leg on its miountings but as both sides of the car are the same i cant see this being a problem can anyone help pplleeaasseee

If it's not the arm bearings then the exhaust is the most likely culprit.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

x 2 exhaust , yes legs move when no pressure on them.

Sorry, i missed the bit about the movement (reading on my phone)

NO, there shouldn't be any movement in the rear arm (other than up/down).

If there's side/side movement then your rear arm bearings are shot (as is the one you replaced it with by the sounds of it). Theses will definitely cause knocking & creaking.

Are you talking about the rear suspension strut / leg as you've replaced the rear arm bearings? the strut does move about when there is no pressure on it.
