1.7 turbo diesel MOT fail.

Post by Turbo Killer »

I have not been on here for a while, so i thought i would tell you about my MOT fail.
It only failed on emissions and a rear number plate lamp. The average was 4.21 m-1, so it was a good bit out and belching a good bit of black smoke out at high revs on the test, the garage asked about the air filter and this was only changed a few thousand miles ago, so they suggested Forte diesel treatment at around £12 a bottle, i am a bit skeptical of these types of 'fixes', but the garage owner was quite confident. I put the full bottle into half a tank and took the car back for a retest, emissions down to 1.35 m-1, so proof Forte diesel treatment does work, on a 'healthy' engine anyway.

when the car when through the test first time was the engine fully up to temprature,
did you give her a Mexican tune up on route to the MOT station,

not realy proof Forte diesel treatment does worked, as the car had been driven more before re/testing,

London Black cab drivers sware by it apparently and it's common practice amongst them to pop one in the tank at mot week.

Give her a bloody good blast before the MOT. I did this just to warm up my 1991 TGS and she sailed through. Mind you, didnt expect her to fail.

The car was given a real good blast before the first MOT, this consisted of a 20 mile motorway trip and the car was well up to temp for the test The car is often taken to 4000rpm and black soot can be seen in the rear view mirror, but after the forte treatment this no longer happens.
I don't know what kind of proof would suffice, this is a real before and after test, with all of the variables as constant as you can get them. I have been around cars for a long time, i also build my own rally cars/engines/gearboxes, so i am not wet behind the ears, i too am still skeptical of these wonder brews, but this one has actually worked and got my car through its MOT.

I too am generally sceptical of 'magic in a bottle' type cures, but have noticed better performance after using injector cleaner (can't remember what brand). Other times I've used it with no effect, so it depends on whether there is anything to clean!

Forte engine flush worked perfectly on a Rover V8 engine with a sticking valve lifter though - I had resigned myself to a camshaft and lifter change but tried the flush and the lifters are still silent 10k miles later.

A petrol TGS is a different kettle of fish to a Turbo Diesel that like to boot black smoke on turbo boost and not much of a problem on the N/A diesel

I've heard good stuff about Forte products, quite a few garages seem to have that stuff in stock in order to help emissions or smoke test cars get through an mot.

I personally like my car spilling out as much black smoke as possible, stops the damn tailgaters. I've put a couple of litres of old engine oil in the fuel tank before, & the smoke is superb

That's interesting, the most I've put in, in one go is 10 litres and had no visible blue smoke.
