BX towing capacity?

Post by djoptix »

Just wondered if anyone knows the weight one can tow with a BX (16v if that makes a difference, which it probably does)? I am nowhere near my BX and so can't investigate a manual or the plate in the engine bay.

And no, I'm not thinking of buying a caravan

Mat is correct.

But, in the uk you can only tow UPTO the equal of the vehicles unladen kerbweight which is specified in the handbook.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

/\ Legally.

I'm assuming something along the lines of collecting a stripped out 16v perhaps?

Makes a bit of a mockery of the 3.5 ton towing capacity of Land Rovers then.

I once towed what I think was about 1500kg with my NA diesel BX. Only a short distance and very carefully as I knew I was overweight. Mat's right though that Citroen's stated limit is 1100kg.

Something along those lines, yes... but I think the "borrow a friend and 4.3L Discovery" option looks the safer one.

Good plan - they make ideal BX tow vehicles!

I've towed a BX with a BX before, and some…erm…heavier loads, in some cases quite a way. The Disco (or presumably any similar vehicle) is a lot more tolerant of a less than ideally loaded trailer.

I know someone who once towed a BX 16v with a BX 1.9d... It did it fine, just be aware that it will be WAAAYYY over the limit with the weight of the trailer taken into consideration

Oh, and good looking car in the background there Mat
