Quick recap, back in summer the wife's clutch cable went and I had to drive out to fix it (there's a thread on the forum somewhere if you care to look....). Turned out that the bracket that holds the cable outer had bent back and also cracked so the cable was able to jump out of the socket. In addition, she'd had another problem a year or two before; lack of go! The beast (19 TXD) would struggle to get up hills in 3rd when it used to romp up in 4th, and generally seemed unwell. I investigated this, and it turned out that the accelerator pedal had as much sideways movement as down; the bracket it's bolted to had cracked and the whole lot was flopping about. Given the size of the bracket casting, you wouldn't have thought it. Someone had done a quick in situ spot weld years ago but it hadn't lasted. So it was welded properly, end of saga.
Now to the point - Andy and I spent a morning stripping out more bits off the scrappy including the bracket off that; and guess what. The bracket had been welded in exactly the same place, along the bottom edge under the accelerator pedal (the bulkhead liner was scorched and melted - what a prat....). In addition, the clutch cable bracket had just started to bend, then decided to tear away completely. Andy will shortly post some pretty piccies.
Moral - the wife's wasn't a one-off. Have a look at yours sometime!

I've had mine crack as well on my TXD, the original lasted about 17 years, i got the garage to replace it with a 2nd hand good one (it was checked) & the replacement lasted 2wks before that cracked as well So by this time the garage had welded up the original 17 year old one, the had to re-fit it, now thats what i call bad luck....

My TD has that problem - not on the clutch cable side yet - IIRC the later models were reinforced here but can't last forever on a heavy, worn clutch..
My throttle side has split and is due for fixing - I can understand welding in situ though - removing the clutch cable is definitely not a 5 minute job especially with the TD's lack of access and the newer Citroen design of clutch cable - it's really easy though to fold back the carpet and sound deadening though!!
When we welded my a post in the summer, we also did the throttle side of the pedal box but this split again after about 6 weeks - definitely needs some reinforcement in there not just weld - the other option for this side of the box is to remake the bracket for the throttle and bolt this to the box using on or more of the existing mounting holes...

Yes, very common problem with BXs – well worth checking and fixing before it becomes a problem.

i always weld two lengths of bolt/stud across from the edge of the section the pedle pivot is fix to, and across to the main face behind the clutch pedle, but not in its path/way, as well as continuously weldding the split back together,
they never fail again after this
i have seen pidgeons shit better that the welding in those picy's,
runs and hides
