Don,t you just love winter ?

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear All.
I am already having to keep an eye on the coolant level, as it seems
to be using a little  but I must admit I haven,t used her very much
at all because my SAAB has a much hotter heater than the BX, until I
get to sorting the heater out on her that is :!:
I am taking the BX in to have her new cat-back stainless steel exhaust
system, in the middle of February 8) So I am trying to make the BX
roadworhty enough to do the trip, to the exhaust specialists :)
However on Friday I took her for a spin around the block, to keep
things moving :) when I noticed that the battery is almost flat :o ( I tried
taking the battery to the local petrol station, to use their air-line to pump the battery back up again but unfortunately it didn,t work :o
The one that is on her at the moment still looks brand new :!: I have
just bought a new battery for her, with a 5 year warranty for £ 49.99
with free delivery, I thought that was a pretty good buy
I have a new battery with a 4 year warranty on the Renault Megane,
but I am going to do the car up again before I sell that one this summer
hopefully :)
What I do with my cars, is to run them through the first winter, to check
for any winter bugs the car has, and to ready them for show use, so that
if it chucks it down with rain, when I am at show. At least I will know that
everything is working and no steaming up of the car etc. etc. I have
already found that the rear windscreen leaks right in the middle of the
screen, as it steams up alot and water leaks in from the outside of the
car, right down the cenre of the inside of the rear screen
So a another trip to autosmash again, I took the SAAB to them 2 years
ago, to seal across the top of the front screen, which only leaks if the
car is covered in snow for a long time  only for the expert to say
that the plastic screen filler was too brittle for him to remove on such an
old car, and that the only way was to book it in with them to fit a new
windscreen rubber and a new tinted windscreen, and most probably
wouldn,t be able to source a new black plastic screen filler anyway
Anyway, roll on spring that,s what I say anyway :)
All The Best.

Well Vince, winter weather does get in the way of getting things done on the cars - but I have to admit that I like driving in snow (there's still time :) ). I've yet to get the concrete laid in front of the workshop so anything that needs doing this time of year has to go to the garage but fortunately both cars are well sorted.

The heater in my BX is very good and also warms up quite quickly too. Do you think you need to flush out the system ? That's definitely a summer job ! Clear heater pipework is important for carbed models to run the auto choke properly but is there any effect on your injection engine I wonder.

According to the garden spring is already here - bulbs etc already flowering - but a bit drier would be good - then I could get on with the dozen or so jobs outside.

Dear Electrokid.
Nice to meet with you, thanks for your kind reply :D
I must admit, since moving Lincoln 3 years ago to Kent, I am really
enjoying the warmer weather. down here I can still be polishing the cars
right up until early Dec. last year 2011 8) I have just finshed renewing
the waterpump, cambelt, tensioner and a new radiator, thermostat,
thermoswitch and the belts etc.etc. so I am really taking advantage of
the shorter, milder winters :)
We have a council house with a double width drive and I rent a small
garage from the council, about 1/4 of a mile away. Which currently is
occupied with my daughters previous car, a Renault megane auto, as
she has a Saxo auto now.
On the drive is my 88 SAAB and the BX TXi at the moment, my long
time suffering wife of 16 years Shari, normally has a motability Astra,
which was due to be changed on the 31/01 this month, for a new Astra,
but unfortunately she had an accident just before xmas the car was
3 years old and had only done 7,000 miles, but they wrote it off :(
and we had already picked her new one, but it won,t be ready until
01/03, so having to slum it in my cars at the moment :)
Anyway I must shoot ok.
Let me know what you,re upto and what cars do you have then ?
All The Very Best.
