Front splitter, best way to fit it?

Post by Mothman »

Whats the best way to fit a splitter? Nuts n bolts or self tappers?

Rather than remove the front bumper to do this i think ile get her up on the tractor ramps. That should get the bottom of the bumper about 4 ft off the ground and so make it easy to work on. Ile hold it in position with some duck tape.

I think they were originally riveted on, but self tappers into the plastic bumper are easier than fiddling around with a nut behind, especially when it goes rusty.

I would take the bumper off first, turn it upside down, shouldnt take more than 5 minutes.

Front splitter best way to fit it

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear Andy
How did you manage to get a front splitter then 8)
When I took all six of the mudflaps off the SAAB and undersealed
the underneath of it, I got some smashing 8mm headed self-tapping
screws with metal washers and thick rubber washers aswell, they were
galvanised Andy. They were made for fixing roof panels on garage
roofs or conservetory roof panels.
I got them from a screwfix place in Lincoln, only have on or two
left now. They are very good and stop the water getting in anywhere
too.
Hope this helps Andy.

Hi Vince,

good idea that, ile give it a go, got plenty of self tappers with washers.
Got the splitter off this forum, do you remember? It was advertised with a new front bumper originally and then the parts were split. :D
Been too cold to fit it until now.

I do hope its going on the TXD estate, which then will give you a "nudge" to get that bloody horrible yellow paint etc off of it

It is Tim,

i will have a go at the paint shortly as well. Going to do the splitter and then the light bulbs in Sophies dash and then attack the paint. Then its the TXds mot. Thats bound to cost this time as its only been £5.10p to get her through over the last 2 years.

The splitter was originally attached to the bumper using heavy duty staples.
