well running on the manual pump causes higher tickover at idle and poor hot starting which are signs of vapour lock so back on electric pump for now. MK2 golfs with carbs had a fuel reservoir between pump and carb which looks very similar to the bx one , dont know whats inside them but they have the three pipe fittings so may be worth a try

NLA or CBA?
It's 026127177B for the EZ, GU, RF & RH engines, and 049127177C for the HM & HV engines (under intake system on their parts database).
Both parts are used on all manner of Golfs, Sciroccos, Audi, and Caddy until 1992. I've often had this from VW dealers until you give them a part number, then all of a sudden it is available...

http://www.vagcat.com but you need to register. It gives prices in Euros (but seem to be about the same in pounds!) and pictures - looks to be the same screens as the dealers view.
