... but I picked up a Purflux C180 fuel filter and now I am unsure if it's a) right for my Lucas pump-equipped TGD and b) what's involved in fitting it?

If that is the alloy canister one theres an allen bolt on the bottom of the canister and a couple of O rings, often easier to remove the filter head from the bracket to see.

Yes it's the right one.

Insert an old rag under the fuel filter, undo the bolt on the top, lower the canister, empty diesel out along with old filter, wipe clean, insert new filter, fill with diesel (if desired), refit ensuring the O -rings are in place, loosen bleed bolt on side of housing, prime with plunger on the front of housing until all the air bubbles are gone, tighten bleed screw, clean up, start engine. Et Voila!

Very easy to do, one phonecall to Shaune just to double check exactly how to take it apart & i did Paul296's without a hitch, 1st time i've done one of those. A surprising amount of crud in the bottom
