Wiring question for those MOT experts out there

Post by citsncycles »

Just realised the MOT is up on the GS in April, and I've got a couple of 'temporary' repairs and odd connectors in the wiring that I have to sort out.

What I'm wondering is if there are any connectors that aren't allowed if you need to splice some wire into the loom, and if in fact you can splice in a piece or do you need to replace the whole run?

Good question. I know they've firmed up a bit on wiring with the 2012 changes. Anything that bans scotch-locks is a good move though! I suspect they're most interested in whether there are any bare wires, knackered insulation or wires just hanging around in iffy places, like near fans but can't really say for sure.

I suppose thats if the tester can see it? If not, then not a problem.

The new regs state:

''Electrical wiring:
a.
insecure or inadequately supported so that it is likely to become damaged
b.
damaged or deteriorated to the extent that it is likely to cause a short circuit or become detached
c.
insulation damaged or deteriorated to the extent that bare wiring is exposed.''

Thanks - that looks like I should be able to do what I wanted to then.

I suspect I'll have to rewire the Land Rover, but that'll be another story!
