Sender fault?

Post by Willy »

For the past few months of driving the dash oil indicator has shown about 90-100% - needle far to the right, like Thatcher. Then, almost overnight it has moved to the centre ground, like Major, occasionally brushing against the socialist red area of death. Dipstick is healthily at the "top" mark and no signs of leakage. Should I worry? Someone's lying and it had better not be the dipstick...

maybe it's the co-oil-ition

If dipstick is alright and oil pressure switch is OK, then it's the sender.

To check the oil pressure light, is it on (with all the warning lights) when the ignition is on (engine not running). If not, then the oil pressure switch may be faulty. If yes, then start the engine and the lights should go out. If you want to be really pedantic, pull the connector off the oil pressure switch (about 10cm above the oil filter) and earth it with the engine running and the lights should all come on again.

I must admit to never bothering to even look at that particular dial, i just check the oil via the dipstick, guaranteed to be always correct.

Give 'em a break Jimmy :) , they ain't been in a posititon of power for a hundred years, must be quite a shock to have to do something in the real world instead of the dream Utopia they've been living in as a third party opposition.

I'll look at the lights next time I go out, but likewise the dipstick says "good to go" so I'm happy about that - will still be super anxious though!

Pessimistic thoughts time:

Blair broke as many promises as Clegg during his tenure and still won landslide elections in 2001, and, to a lesser extent in 2005 due to the war. Like Clegg/Cameron, I'd attribute this to a very weak opposition during the period - something we are currently seeing with Miliband as he fails to capitalise on all these own goals the Gov't are scoring. NHS reforms? If they do happen, which I hope they won't, remember it took us several years (and fatalities) to realise that rail privatisation catastrophically phailed, by which time the opposition was then in power - so they received all the blame for not reversing the policy (point is more that it didn't affect the 1997 election outcome). I doubt NHSing will affect the next election's outcome. Not trying to big anybody up here :) just how I think it will pan out.

And i say it makes sod-all difference who's in charge. It will ALWAYS be the case of rich staying rich while poor become destitute.

If the men at the top were in it as a "position of service" or on £20k a yerar you'd soon see the tables turn but as very little of the changes made will actually affect those making the changes we may as well just continue to bend over and take it.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Or possibly the gauge itself?

My dicky fuel gauge and rev counter are flopping about in unison so i'm suspecting a wiring issue at the binnacle.
