Congrats! Just think, now you have all day to do stuff, that you wouldn't otherwise have had. You could clean it, polish it, the possibilities are endless!

Ah well, i'll just sit in the Astra corner by myself... :-({|=

btw Mick, last Thursday you said here "tonight I turned the key and nothing happened". Did that solve itself ?

The way I read that, you may also have an issue with the starter solenoid, or have a mis-read that one ?

Can't be sure just yet, all I can say for now is its running again, The nothingness on turning the key only happened once or twice and I may have resolved it by cleaning all the connections and the battery terminals, will just have to wait and see

When I bought my last BX, it had an intermittant starter fault.

The problem was a bad low current connection on the solonoid.
It was just a push on crimp connector.

Radiator out to fix it properly with a screw on connection.

I have since fitted a relay so the key switch and wiring does not carry the solonoid current.

I also fitted another so the key switch and wiring does not carry the ignition current either.

Dear Mick.
Well done on sorting out your non-starting problem Mick :) it can be
quite difficult sometimes, especially when everything appears to be
present and correct
I had a similar problem with my GSA, where the block connector for
the ignition module, on the inner wing under the bonnet, use to work
loose occaisioanally, causing it not to start sometimes. But that was only
just a bad connection problem
All The Best Mick.

well the car has run fine on the standard pump until friday afternoon when in the afternoon sun vapour lock kicked in. Quickly reconnected the electric pump and all was ok again but the petrol smell returned, got home and noticed the outlet on the electric pump was leaking, tightened up the nut and the smell has disappeared
