estate boot catch / lock mounting points..

Post by themildbunch »

Hi..

Noticed both plastic mounting points for the boot catch, where the bolts screw into have cracked and snapped and the catch is very floppy although it still holds the boot closed... Think this must have worked loose over time and the heavy boot closing must have cracked it...

Not seen this before on my bx's... Thinking of lots of epoxy to fix of find a whole new inner boot panel... Anyone got any other fixes?

Mine has half gone the same way as yours, one side cracked. I just ladled on the araldite quite thick a few years ago and its holding ok. covered both sides with it just to make sure the other side dosnt crack too.
Another option is to fibreglass it or a replacement tailgate.

i belive i heard someone drilled all the way through and re/fixed the boot latch with nuts and bolts,

i would use large washers or a strip of metal with two holes as a reenforceing plate in the outside,

Had the same problem, lots of araldite and it seems to be holding ok.
