Fan Blower In/Op

Post by Tim Leech »

I know its probably been covered lots of times before so sorry to duplicate, my 19TZD is in having a new clutch and cambelt today. I noticed driving it to work today the fan blower wasnt working, it worked fine before I parked it up at the end of January.

I fiddled with the control a bit and it worked a little bit, but then stopped again!, As were off to France in a few weeks it needs to work!

Cheers!

Could be a number of things but if you are happy pulling of the panel in front of the heater controls you can check the most common cause. On top of the heater PCB you will see a row of 5 terminals where the loom connector comes in from behind. Temporarily touch a well earthed wire to the middle terminal (no. 3) and see if the blower works normally after that.
There's been a bit on my blog about it recently, but don't think I took pictures.

Sorry, wasn't suggesting that you didn't know what a PCB was! Just thought a picture might help.

Come on Tim keep up;

It's all covered in Technical frequently asked questions 'the definative heater mod' even if your not moding the fault diagnosis is in there.

Very unlikely to be the relay. Try earthing terminal 3 and report back what happens.

If all else fails something temporary can be rigged up (on or off), assuming motor OK. Or just drive faster! I went to France in the van last summer, and temperatures were over 40°C. It was whilst stuck in traffic, sitting on top of the engine, I started to wish I'd fixed the siezed blower motor before we set off...

Right to ressurect this thread, I ran a wire from the curcuit board to the earth and HEY PRESTO the blowers fine, so could it be the relay or PCB? I have a spare untested PCB which I tried but that made no difference.

You've proved that the problem is a lack of a decent earth to terminal 3 so not the relay or PCB at fault. If it works when you bridge terminals 3 and 4 then you could just try linking together the corresponding wires, as 4 is also an earth for the panel lights.
