Finally got my 35mm socket so cracked on with the front hub removal today. It's going quite well but a couple of issues have arisen.
1) Lower balljoint. When undoing it, the thread started turning. Lots of penetrating oil and back-and-forth action eventually got the nut spinning smoothly enough to come undone. Should I fit a new balljoint?
2) I can't find any bolts suitable to push the hub out of the hub carrier. I presume, from reading the Haynes manual, that you're meant to insert some suitable bolts through the disc-screw holes? Any other way to do this? What measurements should the bolts be?
I've tried greasing the height adjuster linkages as well, as the lever is REALLY stiff, and won't stay either in low or high.

it's not that uncommon for the taper to turn in the arm, usually jacking under the arm and putting the weight of the car on it will hold it whilst you undo the nut.
You may find that the taper sticks out the bottom of the arm hence the nut will never do up enough to lock it in the arm, in which case I'd replace it yes. I've noticed some cheaper aftermarket joints have this anomaly.
For removing the hub from the carrier, I always find a suitable drift that JUST fits over the inner face without fouling the bearing and hit it out. Since the bearing is being replaced it wont do any harm.

Thanks Doc. Got sold a dummy by Haynes. Used a clever combination of bolts and wheel studs to push the hub out, then realised that I didn't have to at all! Plan was to remove the hub carrier and take it to a local bearing specialist/garage so they can push out the old and insert the new. Oh well. It's all off now and my fingers are still black. Wish I'd remember to put gloves on...

I usually remember gloves after I've finished whatever I'm doing, then wear them on the drive home to save the steering wheel!
