Hydraulic Pump Options?
The steering on my TZD turbo seems to be getting heavier each year. The classic symptoms seem to point towards a tired pump.
I've got 2 spare pumps but both appear to be from petrol engined BX's where the pipes are in a different location.
A new/recon pump is financially out of the question.
Can the original pump be rebuilt or are there any other options (other than buying an unknown 2nd hand pump)?
Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian. I've twice thought I had a knackered pump and twice managed to cure it. Once with a filter clean and once with a Hydraflush session. Have you done a flush?

The fluid is fine. Its always been exceptionally well maintained.

I'd say not, assuming "exceptionally well maintained" includes perhaps the occasional filter clean
A pump from a non PAS BX will have had an easier life. I got lucky with a second hand pump I found in a scrapyard in 2009 when (despite regular fluid changes) mine showed the same symptoms, especially when cold (ambient).

Whereas my second-hand pump has proved a bit of a disaster. I've got another one to try now from a rather less dubious seller (thanks Jayboy!). Just need to find time to fit it now...

Re: Hydraulic Pump Options?
Dunno TBH - I've seen links to people who've given it a go but don't know to what degree of success. If I were you I'd get a second hand one, put that on and have a go at rebuilding whichever turns out to be the worst of the two. Unless the second hand one is good enough straight away. I wouldn't want to strip one down without a spare!
Re: Hydraulic Pump Options?
It has been done elsewhere in this forum. Not easy though and the results are not guaranteed.

Re: Hydraulic Pump Options?
Ian, try hydraflush, damn site cheaper than a replacement pump & whilst you may have done regular fluid changes, the mank is still probably in the system.
