I have contacted Speedy Cables and asked if I should send them the old one.
Below is their response, and can someone tell me if it is easy to get the old cable out (I have no axle stands or car lift)

here speedy cables response:
Best to send us the old cable as a pattern and then we can let you have a price. If it is a 2 piece cable we need both halves as we would make a one piece cable. Providing end fittings are standard most speedo cables are between £23 - £30 plus p&c and VAT.

Good to hear from you Eric, hows the TXi?

Yep - it doesn't even wobble much, just wavers when clocking up 100's.

Mine appears to wobble at all speeds, so put me down for a spare for later use (Mk 2 TZD) - thanks :)

Strange isn't it. Mine only wobbles at 5-10 mph and is fine all the way to 125 mph. [-X

I finally got my Garage to remove the old speedo cable so I plan to post this to the speedo makers soon.
Only problem The photo at the beginning of this thread shows a grey bit at the top end of the speedo, my cable hasn't got this. Does this matter ? actually, this may have broken off ?!

That's the retaining clip / shroud for holding it into the speedo head so quite an etential piece.

I brought the car to the garage just to take this cable out, but if parts are missing I will create a new post and ask for a sample cable.

Is it okay to take the Speedo cable out and still use the car?

Satnav is a good temporary speedo. I wouldn't dream of driving anything without some sort of speed indicator.

Good to know, thanks. Speedo's been broken for months, after approx 5hours of ownership! Just wasn't sure if removing it would stop something else from working. I sometimes use satnav as a Speedo but mostly just judge by the rev counter. GPS tends to be a bit dodgy in heavy cloud/rain and I live in Scotland!
