I love my BXs but...

Post by KevR »

... the combination of RHD and the XUD turbo engine makes it an absolute sod to work on some things. Currently trying to replace clutch cable, some hoses and some hydraulic pipes and I really think it would be quicker to take the engine out... Was working on a LHD one the other day and it's soooo much easier. Oh well, back to the sweating/swearing.

I was astounded at how horrible some jobs are on a turbo XUD. I'll never complain about mine again! Until I start the cambelt job. That's always a pain.

There certainly isnt the room under the bonnet of a TD. Just replacing the airfilter is a pain and if it has ABS.........

Just done that - and that's easy compared to the clutch cable!

Air filter's a walk in the park by comparison.

I've not found a RHD Citroen yet that didn't have some issues compared to the LHD version! Even so. Im glad mine's a non turbo without ABS!

did all the fiddly jobs while the engine was out of mine. was still really tight to get the heater hoses connected down the back of the engine when i put it back. there is less space now i have a turbo.but hopefully more fun.

The pump belt is a bit loose on my TXD. I had a quick look at access and ran away. That might explain why it's lazy to rise and why the PAS goes a little heavy at times though.

why does everyone struggle so much with the clutch cable? i think they are plenty easy to do, even when factoring in dropping the pedal box. you lot need to try working on modern cars that have been entirely designed in CAD with no consideration how repairs can be made.

there are issues with lhd bx too, just think, behind the gearbox are the ac lines, brakes lines, a 2inch bundle of wiring, the speedo cable, then in addition, the brake dosseur valve, clutch cable, accelerator cable, steering column. i think i prefer to have them on opposite sides and whip the intercooler off to make some space.

I remember you and Mike S having a right old bitch about mine  - there's not a lot of space in there ...

I reckon that Citroen just chucked in the engine block and all the parts, then sent it off to a department whose employees just jumped up and down on the bonnet a few times to make it shut.
