Bodyshell distortion

Post by mat_fenwick »

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed this when parking on uneven ground - everything seems fine when you get out, but after the car sinks to the bump stops sometimes the tailgate is a little more difficult to close, as if the shell has twisted slightly.

Both of mine do it, so I avoid parking them on such areas (I really should do a bit more levelling!) as it can't be good for them. I should imagine the estate shell is less rigid in this respect than the hatch, as it is effectively a completely open ended box section at the rear.

Yeah, I've had this. Even when I had my Peugeot 306, I could feel that flex over really uneven ground. Don't s'pose there's much you can do about it really.

GS seems more prone to it than the BX, but yeah.

I had a Bedford CF once that would pop the back doors open on uneven ground!

They are horrific for shell-flex. Try driving down a dropped kerb with it in high and listen to the groan of steel-on-sikaflex-on-steel :)

If it wasn't for the subframes i'm sure the BX would be a self-steering banana by now
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Not as bad as my Stellar - I could get the interior light to come on if I cornered hard! Now significantly reinforced, otherwise the torque from the V8 would probably crack the windscreen.

Worst one I had for flex was a Montego Estate - if you jacked one corner up the doors jammed shut

get a Verde bodied Lance. That takes body flex to a whole new level!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Hi try jacking an Allegro (SP?) up, if you can find one, watched an almost new one being jacked up by a tyre shop (Cityres,Bristol.) and saw the windscreen pop out.
Cheers.

at the citroen service agents i used to work at we noticed that if you pit any other make of car up on a two poster lift you could not open and shut any door till the car was back on its feet,
even a Roller or a Jag,

but all citroens you could open and shut all doors whilst up in the air even dersh'ies (2CV's )
