Rear Suspension losing pressure

Post by johnt »

Hi Guys, advice please.
Having an issue with the rear suspension sagging/dropping after switching off.
Rides fine and pumps up OK on start up, but wthin a couple of hours of switching off the rear suspesion is on the stops. Front is still as normai.
Is this a faulty accumulator?
Regards.

this is the BX syndrom, its usuall with BX'S

the rear suspension returns through the dosure valve/brake pedal unit,

when they start getting old the internal seals cant hold the rear suspension pressure, so the rear ens sinks after switching off the engine,

it dosent usually affect the brake/suspension in normal running

Thanks for the reply Malcolm.
The leaking seals you refer to are they the ones in the rear suspension cylinders?
Thanks
John.

Nope, the one's in the doseur valve. If you do a search, you should find this subject having been mentioned before along with some instructions i believe of what to do. It would be good to get a decent write up for extracting the valve & how to take it apart along with some piccies.

If it has taken a couple of hours for the rear to sink, I wouldn't worry about it. On my first BX TZD, you could switch off, go to a newsagent to buy a paper, come back out and it would be on the deck... in fact it would sometimes sink whilst waiting at traffic lights!
After replacing the dosiuer (footbrake) valve, this problem was history.

They are all different, some stay up for hours (snigger) and some drop quite quickly, the doseur valve is a bit of pig to change so if you can live with then I would.

You will know if the accumulator is duff if the pump kicks in too often, also a test is to ajust after youve turned the car off raise the suspension to HIGH and see if anything happens, if the rear of the car raises the accumulator is ok.

That's a useful test Tim - I shall try that one :-)

I cant profess to being the inventor of this test, Mr RXBX owns that.
