Right sensor ordered and arrived. I presume it's just a case of replacing like for like? Will any coolant escape when replacing the sensor?

Yes, but not enough to bother you. Just release any rad pressure first and put the rad cap back on first then whip it out and in quickly.

Calling Mr Fenwick!

A sensor spec (of sorts) for you, taken from the CAPS demo software.

EDIT
Table removed because it's not good enough apparently.

Though it can still be found here

That table is a bit misleading Vanny. The temperature/resistance readings are more or less ok for a 16v, but its pin 45 and 30 on the most common 1.3 Motronic ECU and pin 13 and earth for the earlier 4.1.

Well i ordered the one MikeE listed further back, and it was the wrong one for me! It was for a 2 row ECU, and i've a 3 row ecu.

For future reference, the 3row ECU takes a 2 pin sensor with a blue body with the following part numbers;
Peugeot/Citroen = 0242-46
BOSCH = 0 280 130 026

I struggled to find anyone who stocked the Citroen part number, but the BOSCH part number is readily available. I have a genuine BOSCH one on its way to me!

The blue one is the generic PSA one IIRC, fitted to Saxos, Xsaras.....all sorts. I think the BX one was a green 2-pin, not to be confused with the green 1-pin used for temp warning lights on billy-basic AXs and 106s!

The BX 16v 3row EFI temp sensor is blue, 2 pin, BOSCH JPT connector, i took off the one fitted to the car today to fit the one i'd ordered, which is how i found it was the wrong one!

The 2row sensor is also a blue BOSCH JPT connector, but with only one pin.

The Cit part number i posted above is from service.citroen TODAY.

That's weird, mine was a green 2-pin. It does have a blue 2-pin aswell (I think) but I think that's for the warning light on the gauge.

Warning light senders are only ever one pin on the BX 16v (in my experience).
