headlamp protectors.
anyone know how to repair a crack in the headlamp protector? believe it's made of polycarbonate but i'm not entirely sure. i also have a "spare" drivers side if anyone needs one. going cheap. has a tiny corner missing, may be hidden by a closed bonnet, not tried it on yet.

I've never had any luck repairing polycarbonate but would be interested too if anyone knows a method.

To seal it up you could try using a clear coloured builders caulk, that would at least fill in the crack & stop any water ingress & might help with the crack from getting any bigger?

Re: headlamp protectors.
Polycarbonate can be solvent cemented with methylene chloride.
It is available from chemical /solvent suppliers like Ashland Chemicals.
It is a nasty chemical, both poison & carcinogenic. Use in well ventilated area.
Make sure you're upstream in the air flow, do not contact with skin it's corrosive as well.
Just brush it onto the cracked areas, it will wick into the cracks.
Make sure all stress is relieved (remove screws clamps, rivets etc) before hand.
Any stress will increase cracks when solvent is applied.

Mine have lots of small spidery cracks through them, still in the one piece though, methylene chloride may be a good preventative. I only have them on the car when I'm going to a club event or show.
Funny that I would rather crack a headlight these days than crack the protector.
