td clutch

Post by barry badger »

I've been sold an luk clutch kit for a tzd turbo, part no 620168000. The centre plate diameter is approx 200mm, is this the right one? I've queried it with my supplier and they say it is but my plans have changed and i may not use it for a while and if it's wrong it may be too late to change it.

I like luk i've always found valeo to be prone to a bit of judder in a diesel and less progressive in operation, but my question is is this the right part number?

It slipped like mad, even though it was brand new, so the box had to come out again, after speaking to a few Citroen people the general consensus was always fit Valeo.

TD is definitely 215mm. Same disc is used in various Peugeot TDs - same whole kit for 405 1.8TD.

Luk were original equipment too though, weren't they?
I fitted a Luk one to the first TD I had, and had no problems with it over the following 20k miles.

Mine have almost always been LUK and Borg & Beck and i've never had any problems with any of them. Only ever fitted one Valeo and never had any problems with that either!

I've not had to change a clutch on a BX yet, but I've fitted all sorts of clutch makes to other cars. Usually, when I've found an issue with a clutch I've fitted it's either been down to my not fitting a complete matched kit, or it's eventually been traced to some other issue such as a clutch fork problem, which some clutches seem to cope with better than others.

In my experience of reconditioned (remanufactured) clutches the main cause of them slipping (when actually traced to the clutch itself) is the fact that the friction face of the cover has been skimmed rather than replaced thus effectively reducing the clamping pressure available.

Anythng to save a few quid eh!
