Any BX genius's in the North East?
Any BX genius's in the North East?
I have a worrying problem.
The tick rate on my newly purchased BX is about every three seconds. Now the lad I bought it from claimed he fitted 5 new spheres recently, so I'm guessing it's the pump or something else? I've read what I can using the search function but am still unsure.
I'm a complete novice on the system and am not at all confident diagnosing or fixing the problem, so my question is this:
Does anyone know of a nice friendly cheap garage in the north east that are competent on BXs?
Or are any competent north east members up for a bit of fiddling in exchange for payment?
Cheers all.
Pms or advice most welcome.

Re: Any BX genius's in the North East?
Is that 3-second tick rate at normal height? Does it have PAS? It's either a duff accumulator ('new' ones aren't always), a pressure regulator fault or possibly a weak pump. Could be a tricky one to identify though.
Re: Any BX genius's in the North East?
I think this can only be those two things;
1) This is the most likely...The "new" sphere is not new at all, and even if it was it could have been on the shelf for years, and they go flat almost as quickly like this than they do while working on the car.
2) The pressure regulator is faulty. If you can find a decent specialist or any decent motor engineer who can have something explained to him, you may be able to breath life into it by re-seating the ball bearing, which from memory is behind the pressure regulator bleed screw, You just need a "tap" made of a softer metal than the bearing (copper from memory but I may be corrected), placed on the "bearing" shall we call it, and a firm tap with a light hammer on the end of this "tap". I have never had to do it and I am sure there are others who will correct me on a few things, but in either case, it is more likely to be one of these two simple fixes than anything more sinister elsewhere in the system. I think, the only other more "sinister" thing would be excessive leak through of one of the other hydraulic components. The way to check this is to remove the filter/cover assembly from the LHM tank and see the flow rate. It should be zero or dripping, but not gushing.
Good luck,
Adam

just try the simple things first,
the easiest is a new accumulate sphere,#
this way there should be no doubt

Depends on how recent is recent, plus I wouldnt always take everything said as gospel (the car was advertised for sale a month before you bought it also on eBay and one of the points listed was that the accumulator sphere was buggered!) , as Mike etc says a new accumulator sphere is about £30 and should cure it.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Thanks very much for all your help gentlemen. All very good info to know. I'll start with the .A.S. and report back when it's done.

Re: Any BX genius's in the North East?
Given the LHM leak mentioned in the other thread, that could well be it!

Agreed!Dollywobbler wrote:Given the LHM leak mentioned in the other thread, that could well be it!
I think.
If LHM stands for "Magic Hydrualic Fluid"

Yes, put the car in the high suspension setting, open the bonnet & on the green lhm tank on the left hand side of the engine there is a plastic dome with a red/orange float in there. It should be between the 2 orange lines, if its not, then top up the lhm until it does sit between those 2 levels & see if that makes any difference.
