BX14 mpg?

Mine is getting Mid thirties round the doors and near 40 on a run.THE_Liam wrote:Looking at a carbed 1.4 at the moment, was just wondering what I can expect to the gallon?

That's extremely useful seeing as it's your car I'm looking at. Probably should have just asked youvnd wrote:Mine is getting Mid thirties round the doors and near 40 on a run.THE_Liam wrote:Looking at a carbed 1.4 at the moment, was just wondering what I can expect to the gallon?
Might be a moot point anyway if I can't think of a better use for that VTS engine
Re: BX14 mpg?
Research is always recomended dude.
And the more info the better!
I'm sure theres a few more 14 owners that will also offer figures.

Re: BX14 mpg?
Mine was my first car, so about 20mpg
But I know the 1400TU is pretty kind on fuel. The BX14 does have short(ish) gear ratios though, so it'll probably struggle to reach 40mpg on a motorway. I know mine couldn't, but then I'd fitted an AX GT carb/inlet etc.
The 16 is better on fuel on the motorway (aslong as it doesn't have a slushbox) but in every other area the 14 is better economy-wise. But being carb engines, it's all about the setup.

Re: BX14 mpg?
If you can resist using the surprising urge they have (must be that short gearing) they can be very economical.
Re: BX14 mpg?
How short is the gearing? What kind of revs at 70? It'll be mostly town driving though...

Re: BX14 mpg?
My previous BX was a 14 - local running I'd get high 30's to the gallon, 40 on a run if you kept the speed down to around 60, but at 70-80mph it'd drop to around 33mpg.
I think they pull around 4k revs at 70 IIRC. For round town they're great, and they are still capable of motorway trips without any complaint.

Re: BX14 mpg?
Hmm, I have a 306 1.6 box somewhere, it should fit and I reckon the ratios would be higher...

Re: BX14 mpg?
Sounds pretty good, but I'm still considering a VTS swap...

Re: BX14 mpg?
Biggest issue is going to be how you'd drive the hydraulic pump. This doesn't sound like an easy engine swap. To be honest, the 14s are great fun as they are.

Does it run off the aux belt/timing belt? Or is it shaft drive off the cam?Dollywobbler wrote:Biggest issue is going to be how you'd drive the hydraulic pump. This doesn't sound like an easy engine swap. To be honest, the 14s are great fun as they are.

Re: BX14 mpg?
Runs off the bottom pulley,
you might be ok on a TU engined BX, if you can swap to the BX sump etc then all pump bracketry will be fine
