TRD Turbo fuel boost valve

Post by VasFer »

Hello everyone.
Just signed up.
I drive a 1988 1.8 TRD Turbo, and I live in Portugal.
I apologize if this subject has been discussed before, but I didn't find it in my quick look on posted subjects.

The diaphragms (both) on the fuel booster valve are burst (RotoDiesel pump).
A local Bosch franchising specialist quoted me 150 euros for the repair kit. At first, for this price tag, I thought it was a repair kit for the whole injection pump, but he confirmed this is just for the fuel booster valve.
At this point I am considering shopping online from a UK specialist, since me and other BX'ers here have had very satisfactory experiences ordering from the UK.
Looking for this particular item(s) - fuel booster diaphragms - I have not found anything useful, only complete injection pumps.

Two questions:
a) can anyone point me a few UK online stores that would sell these?
b) any info on how to adjust the booster valve? I realize this should be done by a specialist with adequate equipment, but the nearest diesel specialist is 20 miles away, so I would need to be able to at least make the car driveable to get there.

Thank you all.

Welcome along! I've used http://www.dieselbob.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in the past, but their website seems to be down at the moment.

Ring TT automotive they will sort you out very reasonably, you will need some no.s off your pump to give them.

The booster pump kits are expensive I had one done on my CX it was £120 Lucas changed the design a bit and the kit includes the whole boost valve I think. You can't use the new diaphgragm with the old boost valve. So I don't think you will find a cheaper ki.

Welcome to the club Vasco.
I am afraid I have no helpful input for your thread but I just wanted to ask if you know anything about another Vasco, omaha2pt on Yahoo groups who used to post knowledgeably on other BX forums probably 10 years ago now.
Just thought I would ask.

Good morning e1.
Thank you all for the helpful insight. For a long time I've only driven petrol, ever since giving up my addiction for Land Rovers and off road fun.

And yes Jaba, I suppose I am the same Vasco. I tried to go back to the "old" yahoo BX-L, only to realize the last post there was months ago, and I was not about to listen to my own echo (comes to mind the scene with Peter O'toole singing while travelling through a gorge in Lawrence of Arabia).

Cheers.

That 'Diesel Bob' website you posted Mat is really fascinating. It isn't down but it says they don't give technical advice out for free anymore as they've been abused!

What a font of diesel knowledge. Totally respect for the XU7/9 and less for modern over-complicated versions. They give the common rail diesel a bit of a hammering too, often not as economical as the diesel engines in our BXs and much more prone to system failure.

Ah, it's back up now - yes, very interesting. I can't see the part in question listed there, but worth sending an email to try.

In fact the situation with dieselbob is a bit weird. They say they do not do any repairs any more. So wtf do they do, sell advice ?

I love their flat earth environmental policy which ends ' Another option would be to take to the streets with placards stating 'Enough of this global warming crap!' '
I wonder if they are still in business from what they say in what amounts to their dying mission statement.

It says they don't do any vehicle repairs at the moment, I assume this means they have enough work just repairing pumps and injectors etc. letting them concentrate on what they are expert at leaving others to do the general donkey work.

It is always good to see an old face coming back to the forums Vasco. BTW your excellent photo sequence of rebuilding a flow regulator is still there on the Yahoo groups file section. I print it off and refer to it whenever I am doing any FDV work.
But as you say the BX Yahoo group is dead now.

Indeed my photos are still there, all documented jobs. I must be honest and tell you that my knowledge on Citroen hydraulics came from other people in the yahoo list, specially from a couple of folks from eastern Europe.
I finally managed to get the injection pump number. As predicted, it is facing some place where you cannot see (Murphy's Law). So I used a mirror to find it, photographed it and mirrored it back in my laptop.
This valve is causing all sorts of problems: gas mileage halved, lost humpf, won't go above 130km/h, and best of all is dripping onto both oil radiator hoses, will have to replace those as well.
MOT was due yesterday :x
Cheers.
