No idea, but it makes sense to get them done to ensure the spray pattern is correct & therefore working correctly. There are re-furb kits out there to replace parts of the inectors to ensure that they work like new. I do have an ultrasonic cleaner but have never used it on injectors, have you got some old one's that you'd like me to try it on?

No Matthew , just the ones in the car ( the 406),from what ive read, most places do it on a post them off and get them back in a couple of days service ,
Typical costs look like £12.50 each (£50.00 for the four ) which I dont think is bad, its just having to lay the car up for three days, I'm trying to find somewhere local that do's it as the process only takes a few minutes to do plus the time to check spray pattern and replace any seals etc

This makes an amazing difference. The ultrasonic cleaning is done whilst the injectors are being pulsed and put through their duty cycle. They are then tested for the various spray patterns and volumetric output and balance. New pintle caps and filters are fitted usually as part of the service.

I took the injectors out and down to the Lucas Centre when I did mine and best improvement result in performance I've ever had. Rock steady tickover too. Lucas Centre is no more but the specialist machine was by ASNU. I know some of the on-line merchants use ASNU equipment so results should be as good if they use this.

Many years ago I was taught how to use a bit of kit called a Hartridge Machine. These were used to check the spill point and calibration of pumps and spray pattern of injectors. As the Engineer Officer in a Diesel Submarine I had my injectors serviced 6 monthly. Maritime search air craft had Exhaust Gas sniffing equipment to detect snorting (snorkelling) submarines and a clean exhaust was very important. Ultrasonic cleaning was used in Gibraltar Dockyard when I was Engineering and Weapons Manager and I suspect we did most of the diesel cars on the Rock....

the 406 hesitates a bit now and then especially when warm , it also sometimes cuts out when slowing down for junctions, roundabouts etc, when it starts messing about the revs pulse between 500 and 1500 rpm looking on the net these are all signs of dirty or blocked injectors , modern fuels although cleaner still leave a deposit on the injectors and they reckon you should have them done every 50, 000 miles or so to keep them at there best, much cheaper than replacing them.

I have serviced the car and replaced the stepper valve which was another possible cause

I took the injectors from the old TGD to the local agent to be cleaned/tested and got a call the following day saying there was nothing wrong with them and there was no improvement to be had. Cost me £3 each for testing (Bosch main agent). Well, it actually cost me £3 for the lot due the the chap on the desk only invoicing for 1 injector, but i wasn't going to point out his mistake! They had 83k on them.

So it pays to just take them in for test, becaus most places will charge you to clean them if you ask them to, whether they need it or not!
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Mickey, a friend at work has a Pug 206 that has the same cutting out issue, when i find out what she had done to get it sorted i'll get back in touch, probably nothing to do with the injectors tbh, it'll be something else thats causing a lack of fuel to be deliverd so as you slow down the engine cuts out. Her's was sparodic, it was regular enough to be annoying & would happen most day's but not always. When i know more i'll be in touch.

Is this 406 petrol or diesel Mick? I see your getting diesel answers but I answered for petrol and the injectors are totally different. :?
