Swapinf the rear arms

Post by kiwi »

A worthy easy ish challenge or not?

After much pondering I have decided to decommision the 19TZS with the cooling system and carb issues. Bascially the carb has been an issue for a while now and the cost of fuel just dont make any sense to keep going. Plus cooling system requires the Heater Tap replaced, water pump looks defunct and lord knows what thats done to the insides over the time its been going along with exhaust holes appearing. Interior already destined for a swap to the other TZS Auto.

So I am turning my attention back to the 19TRS replacing the rear arm bearings with the arms from the TZS depending on how complex that could be? Corosion not much of an issue due to lack of the salty stuff on the roads and plentiful rain.

If you know the ones on the TZS are good ones then it is definitley worth doing. It is very easy to swap complete rear arms. Most of the work when doing rear arm bearings is in the strippin and repairing of the arm when you actually have it on the bench not the removing and refitting.

The only (unlikely) issue might be if the TRS has ABS, and the TZS doesn't.

I avoid vehicles fitted with ABS...takes the fun out of sliding :)

Its a go then! Will update this when something worth updating eg problems :)

Lesson learned! When reading the Haynes manual for advice always go and read the pocket mechanic handbook as well!

I struggled to get the long bolt out and then could not get the arm out! Then I discovered that your suspposed to put the suspension bacjk to low from the rear wheel changing high it has to go in to remove the wheel.

One down 3 to go!

Now he points me to the thread...

One part I have not done is remove the caliper just took the whole lot off so just got to refit and plug back in the hydraulic pipe.

KIS....Keep it simple I say :)

Just take the wrong route...lol

Done!

Took just under two hours to take the other off and put the better one on not to bad a job either.............but

When I put the swapped one back on the car I was going to take apart the piston bolt or whatever its called failed to sit properly my jiggling ended up with it falling out. Guess what happened when I tried to short cut that and not repair  Cars being scrapped anyways this just made things harder to remove anything from under the car...nuts.
