Rear Speaker Wires

Post by rd27 »

I've done an extensive search but couldn't find a definative answer so i'm sorry if this has been covered before.
I've got a TXD model BX which only has two front door speakers fitted as standard. I've recently acquired a parcel shelf complete with 6x9" speakers and was wondering if the rear speaker wires from better equiped BX's are already in place in the back of the car or if I have to run some wires from the stereo myself?
If they're already fiited, where are they hidden?
Many thanks in advance.

The rear speakers for the GTi are fitted in the quarter panels adjacent to the back seat and just behind the rear door shuts. This is for cars with solid quarter panels, I don't know if a facility exists if the car has smoked perspex quarter panels.

Even if the wires are present it will be a pain to access and join to them. Probably a better plan to run new and more generously specced cable front to back.

I'm pretty sure they aren't there if no speakers were fitted. I'm afraid I can't remember which path they should take, but I am sad enough to remember the colour - look for a pair of dark green, and a pair of brown wires (green for N/S) which would be separate from the rest of the loom.

I've moved it to Technical which may give more replies.

The standard fit rear panel speakers are small and pretty poor quality anyway. As Mat says your best to run some extra wires through the car and wire up the 6x9" speakers. The wires are easily hidden under the carpet if you remove the interior sill trim.

I got a local car stereo place to run some cables from the headunit to the rear 6x9's in the parcel shelf, pretty sure no wiring was available to to mess about with as my car didn't have the poxy rear speakers fitted in the c panels like they were in my Gti.

I've found the rear speaker wires adequate to power 6x9's in a few of my BX's. They're also long enough to pull through the side cubby hole area in the boot and connect to wires coming from the parcel shelf, thus easy to connect/disconnect when removing the shelf.

Thanks for your replies folks, i've sorted it, couldn't find any existing ones there so just ran some wires underneath the interior sill trim to the head unit, works bang on.
