Pump clatter

Post by Dollywobbler »

The hydraulic pump on the TXD seems to quietly clatter almost continuously, though it still makes the usual 'louder clatter' when asked to do something, like raise the suspension. Is it likely that a bearing or something is on its way out in the pump? I'm hoping it'll still managed to get me to Devon and back over the weekend...

I do have another pump (I still need to pay Jayboy for it!) but don't fancy trying to fit it this afternoon in case something goes wrong. The car is always very slow to rise, needing raised revs. Steering is fine though. Brakes are quite poor (by BX standards).

I wouldnt worry too much about it Ian, the pump on my TGD had been doing that since i got her 7 years ago and hasnt failed yet despite doing 20k. If it fails, then worry.

more often than not it is air ingress cause's this,

it does realy need checking as it will damage the pump in time (who knows how long )

also what state is your accumulator sphere

Thanks Andy. I'll turn the stereo up!

Malcolm - acc sphere isn't the best. Tick time is about seven seconds. Replacement will hopefully occur next Friday with the assistance of one Mr M Fenwick.

It's the one it was wearing when I got it. I do already have a replacement, but don't much fancy my chances of replacing it without a proper sphere removal tool.

Blimey you notice the noise above the clattering of the TXD engine?

I got to say I love the sound of the Diesel TXD at 5am on a quite morning! The sound certainly makes it clear that while others are still sleeping at the weekend I am off to do some work...lol

get yourself one of these Ian,

you will need the 300mm version

http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/38046244 ... sbar&cbt=y" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the only thing to whatch when using them on a BX/XUD accumulator spheres, it can foul on the triangle web/ledge on the crank case behind the sphere, all you do it place the chain at such an angle around the sphere it does not catch up on the web
