Brake return pipe? There are no returns from the brakes - they're a dead end in the system.

It's what they call one of the front to rear pipes - the one that's different depending on whether the car has ABS or not.

here is two options for front to rear brake feed pipe dependent on rp No.,
this is for a non power steering car, and the only others listed are for ABS cars

i know you said return pipe,

95 595 681
HYDRAULIC TUBE
LONG 3035
- UNTIL RPO 04346

96 117 585
DIAM 3,5-3100
- SINCE RPO 04347

and here is a metal pipe showing under brake circuit which one end terminates at the dosour valve,
and the other end is from 4 way union at the rear sub frame for the rear suspension

96 117 584
HYDRAULIC TUBE
DIAM 3,5-3375

non of which are showing as NFP

You'll have a better idea of the RP No. than me Tim, but the one to the union on the subframe is already back on the car.

Assuming they are all the same diameter (which I guess is the case as they're all non ABS), then it'll probably be one of the top 2, although to be honest I'd like to see an exploded diagram to be sure, especially as I know what I've reconnected so far (assuming it's right!)

I'll give Tony another visit and see if I can scrounge a look at his library of factory manuals and parts books, although it'll probably be Tuesday before I can do this - they'll probably tell me more than Haynes as far as finding the right one to order.

Theres a pipe circuit/diagram in the 120 page/PDF as in THIS thread with all the pipe part no's and the lengths too !

However I've tried to open it up a few times in the last week or two, as well as the searchable 'Google doc. file' which 'Matt H' kindly put up too BUT with zero success

So perhaps the links are gone or corrupted scratch...

Could someone else check this out to see if the same happens to them when trying ?

Tim i think it will be one of these dependent on your rp No.

as its the only front to rear pipe in the brake circuit that can be different on an ABS car

95 595 681
HYDRAULIC TUBE
LONG 3035
- UNTIL RPO 04346

96 117 585
