Put a new Valeo in mine about 6 months before I sold it. Was a nightmare to get hold of and cost about £200. I think a month after I bought it there was one on ebay for about £65. I may have muttered to myself a little bit :) .

Thanks Graham - the Valeo supply chain seems to have dried up. Probably have to try one of the after market suppliers.

I have zero patience for your tedium.

At £200 for a new one, isn't it cheaper to get the old one re-cored?

ANY specialist firm worth their salt should be able to recore any radiator, it's not an uncommon size or type. It's more a case of whether they can be bothered!

Some specialists don't have the facilities to recore a modern radiator with plastic tanks, like ours, but there are people out there who will do it.

The company I used said a re core would cost more than the radiator.

Another possibility maybe. When I first wanted one I telephoned a company local to me called Blue man auto parts. They said they could order me one from Nissens in Denmark. I think the cost was around the £200 again. However, they said it would take about 2 weeks. I agreed to that and I ordered it. 2 weeks later I phoned them and asked about my radiator. I was told the order had been cancelled for some reason. Anyway I wasn't happy so I went elsewhere. But a couple of days later a manager phoned me and told me they had the radiator. I told him I didn't need it anymore because I was told they didn't have it. He wasn't best pleased either because they has ordered it in special and were stuck with it. Anyway after all that whether it is worth ringing them to see if they still have it or have returned it. But they are in Birmingham so I don't know if that is any use. The phone number is: 0121 772 7111.

Graham's story sounds like a local version of what happened to me when I needed a rad for the Series 1. The local specialist quoted me £180 +VAT for a recore, but I found several suppliers on line that could supply me with one for around £100. I had 3 different companies cancel my order, 2 within minutes of it being placed, because they couldn't actually supply. In the end I got one for about £120.

For what it's worth (maybe not much) there used to be an old boy in Watford who did recores. He did a couple for me on my old Rover turbo and I think it was something like 60 quid although I wouldn't swear to it. That did have metal end tanks though which might have made it easier and therefore cheaper.

I think the company was just called Watford Radiators - if he's as good value has he was back in those days then it's worth a call.

Just did a Google search and didn't get anything from it. Sorry for the wasted post, the chap might not even be with us anymore, he was pretty old and that was back in 2006 or so :-/

Thanks -both
The guy at the Radiator shop was v helpful.None available but could be re cored although the plastic tanks make this a bit tricky; so maybe not everyone would want to take it on.might need to use metal tanks as plastic ones can crack with age etc.
Mine is with Raysons in Taunton to be flow tested .Will see what this produces and go from there.

I've found a new 'Valeo' Radiator listed on E-bay for £135.62 incl. of delivery which seems to be a more reasonable price in comparison to some of the other referenced /\ prices !

Click on photo for link

However best check with them first on 01372 361640 before making any purchase as the listing is showing its also suitable for a 1769 cc N/A Diesel :?
