Breather.

Post by ace_the_bass »

Evening all. Just a quick one. The metal mesh inside the oil filler cap on my gti.....can they be bought new? Changing the oil on the car and I've noticed it's beginning to fall apart and disintegrate.

its actually a flame trap and to make sure you dont get any more rusty mesh entering the engine oil, i would remove that gauze/mesh completely , the breather filter is in the filler neck, to gain access to that remove the filler neck from the car and put the large end of a half inch drive extension up into the bottom end of the neck, and tap the bottom of the extension on something hard, this will push the inner center up and out of the top of the filler neck,
you will find a rol of gauze/mesh inside,

unroll, clean roll back up and re/fit

However, if you still want to replace the cap/mesh they are available at halfrauds for around £8 complete.
I have zero patience for your tedium.
