OE strut return pipes

Post by KevR »

For some reason I thought Citroen weren't supplying strut return pipes any more, but turns out I'm wrong. I can get some for 15 quid each posted (to UK). Are they as good as the 'old' return pipes or am I as well off getting some from GSF?

Thoughts anyone?

I'd go for the O.E. ones Kev. IIRC there have a few people who have suffered ruptured strut return pipes from GSF ECP et al. The pattern ones don't seem to last much more than twelve months. I'd look on Leboncoin, genuine ones seem to crop up quite often.

I hadn't actually heard that Citroen weren't supplying them either - just had it in my head that they didn't - but then my head's a strange place...
Old stock ones do indeed turn up occasionally on LBC, but usually by the time you've added postage they're twice the price of a new one. Now if they're superior quality then fair enough, so the real question is whether the pipes supplied by Citroen now are as good as those supplied by Citroen ten or more years ago.

The last OE ones I put on have lasted 6 years with no visible signs of deterioration, so it's likely that the ones available back then were equally good. I guess there's no way of knowing what the ones available today are like without a time machine! (And if I had a time machine I probably wouldn't be checking out the condition of strut return pipes in 10 years' time...)

/\ Definitely, 12 months and they need replacing. It's not as if they are way cheaper anyway.
You could use Xantia/XM ones anyway I believe but they only have one feed, so one of the return feeds on the BX will need to be blocked off too to prevent dirt ingress

My local dealer's here in France though, where everything's considerably more expensive!

Didn't realise you could use Xant ones, but since OE are stil available, I'll go for those.

True! With some you are lucky if you get near 12 months without them start leaking.

Interesting! I wonder though how you would fare with the MOT man though as this is one of the primary BX items that he checks. (construction & use?)
