rear brake calipers - sources?

Post by tim »

I'm not unbearably surprised.... after the repiping project started (see last thread) I tried to shift the bleed nipples on the rear calipers. They seem never to have been moved and as a result won't come out under any circumstances and have both happily sheared off. This was despite a week of penetrating oil, much heat etc. I will be taking the wee shites to an engineer tomorrow who is well able to do drilling and so on, but he warns that the nipple seat will have to survive the experience and it is by no means that easy. So I MAY have to find a replacement pair. Can anyone suggest an affordable source? Or who has a second-hand set of bodies kicking around? The pistons are OK.

Hi, nipple with pointed end ground flat or bolt with small flat ground along thread lengthways. Ball bearing seated on seat if you see what I mean. Works well. Have used on front calipers when stuck and unable to find and in a hurry.
Cheers.
