fob

Post by rutter123 »

i found this over the weekend lurking in the back of a drawer, it is the fob that came with my tzd turbo, it was working fine until the small button was lost a few years ago, i know its not the original i remember the guy i got the car from saying it was maybe a saxo fob? would this mean the sensor in the sunroof panel would have been changed as well? or replacement/repair options.

I thought Paxo ones were RF, not IR like the BX.

Couldn't confirm what that fob is from though. Does it have an IR LED (like a remote control) or just the flashing one on top?
I have zero patience for your tedium.

You can buy rf kits on fleabay for around £20. Ive had two and both work(ed) well until I forgot to disconnect one during a spot of welding! They do however work from quite a long range (20 metres or so) so it's easy to unlock by mistake as you put the keys in your pocket

Same as the one originally fitted to my BX TZD too which I have since replaced with an identical one from a ZX, yes you doe replace the fob and the reciever at the same time as one package althought I have no doubt some clever electronic gadget experts will be able to retune one.

FWIW something I found recently when repairing a number of rf remotes...

The little transmitter takes about 20mA current... most small LEDs are designed to run at around 20mA... so in several of the designs I worked on, the little red LED that comes on when you press the button was simply wired in series with the battery - so when you press the button the circuit is powered through the LED.

That's all perfectly reasonable - if the device doesn't transmit then it's unlikely that the CCT will draw current so it's unlikely that the LED will come on - so the LED fulfils its purpose of letting you know that all is likely to be well.

The trouble with that is...

The LED is invariably soldered to the PCB and invariably pokes through a hole in the plastic case. When you press the button there is almost inevitably some slight distortion of the whole assembly - and that results in movement of the LED with respect to the PCB - eventually the LED solder joints respond to the stress by going intermittant or plain old open circuit, and of course when it goes open circuit there's no chance of getting power to the unit and it stops working.

I had 3 rf remotes, all different types, where the ONLY fault was the solder joints at the red LED ! Whenever you work on an rf remote it's worth re-making those joints even just as a precaution.
